This content is out of date. The SA Eagle brand is no longer operational. It was first operating as Zurich and at the moment is operating as Bryte.
Now goes by its scientific name, Zurich in South Africa. The JSE-listed, short-term insurance company provides both personal and commercial lines insurance to clients across the globe and now in South Africa. Zurich offers a full range of insurance products from car and home insurance to business insurance and specialist marine, engineering and risk finance insurance.
Since becoming Zurich, SA Eagle has stopped slumming it with the proles and has moved on to bigger and better clients. The short-term insurance company provides home and car insurance to higher net worth individuals, allowing them to combine their residences, portable possessions and executive vehicles under one policy. This simplifies their insurance portfolio by making it easier to manage.
Zurich also offers what they refer to as Flexiflite, which combines personal lines and commercial insurance for sole traders. An annual premium is available for this, as opposed to a monthly premium, which is often cheaper.
Zurich commercial insurance covers medium to larger enterprises (unlike business insurance which caters for smaller enterprises). The commercial insurance specifically caters for those perils unique to operating larger businesses, such as property or buildings insurance, car insurance for business vehicles, liability cover, goods in transit, and electronic equipment. Given the size of commercial businesses, Zurich offer accident and health cover as well as a fidelity guarantee (which protects business owners from dishonest employees).
Corporate insurance is business insurance specifically for corporate clients (usually larger than commercial businesses). It is separate from commercial lines because the underwriting principles are different. Corporate business insurance by Zurich covers buildings and their contents as well as up to 10 vehicles. It may include goods in transit and liability insurance.
Given the nature of businesses that specialize in imports and exports, specialized marine insurance is required. This protects businesses from perils associated with transporting goods across open water, such as sinking, stranding, fire, collision, theft and the actual ship transporting the goods. Zurich specializes in this type of insurance, which is useful for both shipping companies as well as businesses that make use of such.
Engineering insurance also requires specialist insurance as the perils associated with engineering are different to those of other businesses. Zurich covers engineering risks at every stage of the engineering process from manufacturing, to transport and construction.
